چکیده

A signal detection system using noise statistical processing is proposed. By approaching the problems of low voltage and high noise from miniaturization of a device from a stochastic point of view, a faint-signal receiving system that can effectively detect subthreshold and noise level signals has been developed. In addition, an alternative to statistical processing is proposed, and would be successfully implemented on a circuit. For the proposed signal detection method, the detection sensitivity was investigated using numerical simulation, and the detection sensitivity was sufficiently high to detect even a signal with a signal-to-inherent-noise ratio of −14 dB. Thus, it is anticipated that the application of this system to an integrated circuit will have a significant impact on signal processing. key words: noise, stochastic resonance, statistical processing, communications system

Evaluation of the Hidden Markov Model for Detection of P300 in EEG Signals

Introduction: Evoked potentials arisen by stimulating the brain can be utilized as a communication tool  between humans and machines. Most brain-computer interface (BCI) systems use the P300 component,  which is an evoked potential. In this paper, we evaluate the use of the hidden Markov model (HMM) for  detection of P300.  Materials and Methods: The wavelet transforms, wavelet-enhanced indepen...

Nanotube Stochastic Resonance: Noise–enhanced Detection of Subthreshold Signals

Noise can help signal detection at the nano–level. Experiments on a single–walled carbon nanotube transistor confirm that a threshold exhibits stochastic resonance: a judicious amount of noise can help a threshold–like nanotube transistor detect subthreshold signals while large amounts of noise overwhelm the signals. The nanotube produced this stochastic–resonance effect using three types of sy...

A New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)

Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...

A New Method for Detection of Backscattered Signals from Breast Cancer Tumors: Hypothesis Testing Using an Adaptive Entropy-Based Decision Function

Introduction In recent years methods based on radio frequency waves have been used for detecting breast cancer. Using theses waves leads to better results in early detection of breast cancer comparing with conventional mammography which has been used during several years. Materials and Methods In this paper, a new method is introduced for detection of backscattered signals which are received by...

Stochastic and Coherence Resonance in Hippocampal Neurons

Stochastic Resonance (SR) is a phenomenon observed in nonlinear systems whereby the introduction of noise enhances the detection of subthreshold signals. Both computer simulations and experimental recordings in the hippocampal brain slice have shown that stochastic resonance could play a significant role to enhance the detection of synaptic potentials generated in distal synapses. The noise var...
